Daoist Academy
Introduction
The Daoist line in INBI institute is based on the knowledge of Daoist internal alchemy.
In essence, Daoist Internal Alchemy represents a universal and complex
system of knowledge and self-development, which cannot be reduced
historically, sociologically, or culturologically.
Proper understanding of Daoist alchemy requires understanding of the anthropological conception of Daoist system. In Daoist conception, the human being is viewed as a certain quality and condition that has been formed in the universe with the ability of self-development. In this sense, the message of Daoist practice is very clear and simple:
- Man is born in order to develop
- Development requires adequate/proper effort
- Effort is defined by volition, adequacy/properness – by the mind
This concept reveals the basic key for the efficiency/successfulness of Daoist practice, requiring the unity between volitional and intellectual effort in one single internal effort.
As system, Internal Alchemy is science in form and art in content. It is a science, as far as it is based on objective, concrete and
precise - yet subtle - energetical laws, principles, cycles/ and rhythms that govern and regulate the microcosm, macrocosm and their connection. Internal Alchemy is art, as far as it requires constant
awareness, effort and responsibility on behalf of the student (practitioner), who begins to model and, ultimately, permanently change the level of his existence.
As process, Internal Alchemy deals with the transformation of grosser energies into subtler(purification of energy), thus leading to a constant change in the experience of the practitioner by unifying the microcosm and the macrocosm on more and more deep levels; it is this
permanent and growing change of the experience of life and the universe
that defines the innermost meaning of the alchemical concept of self-development, which Daoists treasure as the ultimate value of human existence. This process requires progressive unity and synchronization of three qualities - form (body), movement (energy) and direction
(consciousness), until they become one symmetrical (homogenous)
energetical substance; the alchemical aspect of the practice is defined
precisely by the ability to fuse and transform differences into unity/oneness.
Principles
As practice, Internal Alchemy consists of a complex of rich, but structured and organized exercises based on:
- universality as detailed and complex development, integration and transformation of all aspects of human structure;
- systematic approach as objective form for gathering and transformation of subjective experience;
naturalness as process of cultivation and gradual change;
- regulation and personal rhythm as connection between the human being and the universe, based on his individual rhythm;
- transformation of the body as formation of conditions for increasing the power for continuous development; stabilization of the achieved conditions; maximal development of the given potential;
- interconnection between body and mind as formation of instrument for body transformation; as condition for regulation and personal rhythm; as condition for generation of internal effort.
- processuality of the mind as transition from defining to experiencing the things.
Tasks
The basic tasks of Daoist alchemy include:
- Attainment of harmony as formation of symmetry in the body.
- Development of internal power as possibility to change ourselves and the environment.
- Purification of energy as change in the vibration of the energy form more crude to more refined.
- Mutual connection of internal power and purification of the energy as necessity of power to go together with purification and of purification – with power.
- Preparation for death/attainment of immortality as preparation of the quantity and the quality of our energy for the phase after the physical death.
- Improvement of the quality of life as general formulation of the meaning of life containing in itself all other tasks.
Methodology
The methodology of Daoist alchemical practice is based on three basic instruments:
- construction of the body as construction of a form for energy circulation; the body as form is condition for energy circulation;
- circulation of energy as condition for energy preservation;
- concentration of the mind as condition for energy transformation.
In order for real alchemical process to take place, we need to have a process of controlled change of energy, without it being lost. Neither in natural circulation without concentration, nor in concentration without complete circulation there can be real alchemy; in the former case the energy is preserved but not transformed, in the latter case the energy is transformed but it is lost (burned).
Levels
The levels in Daoist practice are defined from perspective of the major types of energy:
- level of qi, requiring filling of the body with energy by means of relaxing the body;
- level of jing, requiring interconnection of the energy in the body by means of gathering the body;
- level of shen, requiring transformation of energy by means of concentration.
| level/type of energy | status of energy | methodology of work | manifestation in the body
|
|---|
| qi | filling | relaxation | sensation
|
|---|
| jing | interconnection | gathering | Power
|
|---|
| Shen | transformation | concentration | purification |
From her we can formulate a general definition of the three types of energy as follows:
Qi is filling energy.
Jing is interconnecting energy.
Shen is transforming energy.
This differentiation, however, also shouldn’t be conceived of in linear manner since the three type of energy are also interconnected. Thus, for example, the interconnection of energy on jing level already suggests its partial transformation. On shen level, th transformation is complete it structures the energy. From this perspective, jing can be viewed as transforming-interconnecting energy, and shen – as transforming-structuring one. I.e., interconnecting is transformation on jing level and structuring is transformation on shen level.
From the point of view of the practitioner’s development in time, the three described levels can be understood and distributed into two phases of practice, as follows:
- preparatory phase: phase of body construction and restoration of energy circulation; corresponds to qi level;
- alchemical phase: phase of energy transformation through concentration of the mind; corresponds to jing and shen level.
I.e., the preparatory phase constructs the body and restores the circulation of energy by working mainly with qi energy. True, qi energy by itself is not valuable, but it is the material out of which jing and shen energies are later formed, so it cannot be skipped. The purpose of the work on qi level is to create the conditions in the body for filling with energy, preservation of the filled energy and assimilation of the preserved energy. This, therefore, represents mostly a quantitative phase. The alchemical phase is already qualitative, and the purpose there is to create conditions for interconnection, transformation and structuring of the energy.
| Phase | Type of the changes | Type of the energy | Tasks of the phase in relation to the energy
|
|---|
| preparatory | Quantitative | qi | filling preservation assimilation
|
|---|
| alchemical | Qualitative | jing, shen | interconnection transformation structuring |

INBI DAOIST ACADEMY
Description
INBI Daoist Academy represents holistic and complete system of internal education, allowing to achieve full transformation in one life cycle, if certain conditions are present.
INBI Daoist Academy consists of 144 individual codes, distributed in 52 theoretical and 92 practical disciplines, and is, in essence, an integral synthesis of all major alchemical schools as follows:
- School of the Heavenly Teachers (Tianshi dao) (Five Pecks of Rice (Wudoumi dao), Orthodox Oneness (Zhengyi dao);
- Highest Clarity Tradition (Maoshan line) (Shangqing (Maoshan pai);
- Wudang School (Wudang pai);
- Schools of the Golden Elixir (Jindan dao);
- Complete Perfection Tradition (Quanzheng pai);
- Numinous Treasure Sect (Lingbao pai);
- Twofold Mystery School (Chongxuan pai).
Includes disciplines directed solely towards alchemical work and the preparation for it. each code represents a certain algorithm and key, which prepares the body, the energy and the mind on different levels for preservation of the human spirit (as minimum) and its development and transformation (as maximum).
The concept of code suggests the necessity for complex (mental, physical and energetic) effort in order for the individual practices (disciplines) to work and become internally accessible – i.e., to open themselves to the practitioner. The notion of “code” first and foremost suggests and requires maximum active participation on behalf of the practitioner towards the practice.
Tasks
Daoist Academy at INBI World aims to accomplish the following tasks:
- To draw and systematize the common and basic characteristics of the central alchemical schools in order to form and synthesize a conceptually and methodologically unified system.
- To offer structural approach (incl. classifications, descriptions and so on), oriented towards the contemporary mental evolutionary status of humanity – and, more precisely, the Western man. The structurizations in question, therefore, are not borrowed immediately from literature on Daoist alchemy (something which is impossible anyway).
- To be of practical value to the people involved in Daoist practice. I.e., despite its highly theoretical format, the meaning of this text is to aid the conceptual clarification of the practitioner in relation to the principles, tasks and instruments of Daoist alchemy in order to improve the quality of the practice.
Requirements
To the person willing to use the knowledge of INBI Daoist Academy is advised to follow certain requirements in order to have maximum effect from the practice:
- persistency;
- discipline;
- maintaining of rhythm;
- maintaining the principles of internal work;
- development of concentration;
- performing analysis and self-analysis;
- generation of internal effort (constant work over one’s self).
