Introduction
The talk show Guru is a TV project that Dnepr TV airs regularly in collaboration with INBI World International Ethnic Centre.
Concept
- The show aims to familiarize the audience with the numerous methods for harmonious personal development designed by various world cultures. This is done through talks with representatives of various trends, masters and heirs of the above mentioned traditions.
- The show also aims to reveal the characteristics, benefits and advantages of each method in relation to comprehensive personal development.
Description
- Participants – instructors, masters and representatives of various traditions and trends. Professionals from diverse areas and spheres who see their own work as above all a method for achieving perfection and not simply a way to make a living (actors, doctors, teacher, painter, etc.);
- Host of the show – Oleg Cherne, an explorer of the traditions and methods of ancient cultures, a traveler, author of a number of books on marital arts and Dao Alchemy. Also founder of INBI World International Ethnic Centre.
The talk show has an easy-going and casual atmosphere. Each show introduces one to three guests – instructors and masters of various trends. The host asks questions and talks with the guests.
Technical description
The talk show can be subdivided into three functional parts:
- a talk/ discussion when the guest replies to the host’s questions;
- a short demonstration of the guest’s trend and method (1-2 minutes);
- a demonstration of the basic elements of the presented trend (using one or a few members of the audience)
The following are carried out separately:
- an interview with each guest (whenever convenient, before or after filming the talk-show);
- a demo video/ portfolio of each participant.
Each of the participants in the project should send (if possible):
- a picture of himself in the process of practicing his method or in the corresponding attire/ pose;
- video materials of programs, shows, etc. where he has appeared, if such are available;
- music (that corresponds to the presented method);
- a verbal description of his method;
- A personal resume.
These materials will be used in the process of preparing the show, for special inserts presenting information about the participants and as audio background for certain details.

When using the concept ‘master’ as part of our lexicon we often do not stop to think what it stands for exactly. A Master is a man who has devoted a large part of his life to the study of a certain art.
As a matter of fact professional training and the possession of exceptional skills in a particular sphere are not necessarily and always indicators of masterhood. Many people are naturally gifted and can learn a given art or skill faster than people who have spent years in perfecting and gaining experience in the methodology of mastering this same art.
So eventually it turns out that some possess the skill but do not know the method, and others know the method but cannot easily acquire the skill. The only way to learn a certain art and know its method is to spend a lot of time and efforts in its mastering. This can really help you attain masterhood and, more importantly, will not let others judge you. How could they judge a person if they do not understand the essence of his method? For you have to know a certain method in order to be able to pass judgment about it.
Masterhood itself is made up of many different concepts. Yet to understand them all one has to learn the method that helps attain masterhood.
Aspects of masterhood
Masterhood has a ‘visible’ and an ‘invisible’ level. Let’s examine these two closely.
Visible aspects of masterhood
- Bodily form and name. Based on the concepts of industrial psychology refering to the cases when one simply reacts to masterhood without possessing the skill necessary to evaluate it objectively. Reference is made to the ‘implicit’ aspects of masterhood based on analogy with the typical kinds of knowledge. From this point of view masterhood is seen as a service and the master is simply a commodity on the services market.
- Aesthetics. Refers to the principles of inner and outer purity of masterhood, the original image of a master. This aspect determines whether you like a specific master or not. The majority of contemporary people choose their master according to these aesthetic principles as if they could measure the true knowledge of a Master.
- Discipline. Discipline is the label of masterhood. Outer manifestation of discipline is exactly what helps preserve the external correspondent to the internal.
- Philosophy. The master must not name the thing he teaches since he is not a teacher; he cannot have pupils even if they refer to themselves in this way. The pupils of a certain master are actually followers of a certain school of thought/ art. Thus the master must exemplify his philosophy through his own development and teach his apprentices through analyses. This is why the speech of a master must have a certain volume. This is what ‘philosophy’ refers to.
- Thought is a function of the philosophy of the Master. The Master must constantly demonstrate through analysis (the true tactics and strategy) and not simply oblige the pupils to follow a certain direction. The latter can be done through discipline and if his followers agree to it, then what is beyond should be demonstrated through the Master’s understanding of the art, since this is what defines his ability to think and follow the philosophy he has accepted.
- Technical aspects of manifestation. These help one perfect the qualities that generate the visible, the outer form of perception. Reference is made to the specific outer appearance that manifests itself only with a Master who has the right to teach and not simply demonstrate and instruct, for this is rather the task of an instructor. The technical aspect helps explain the difference between a leader, an instructor, a master and a teacher. The technical aspect aims at limiting the technicalities of teaching. It helps unite the concepts of thought, physics and energy into a single whole.
- Competence is a quality based on actions and principles. Competence should not be concealed through quiet believing and reverence but must be based on respect. This is a very important quality that helps exert external control in the process of teaching. It is also one of the most crucial principles demonstrating that the Master does not treat things as primary and secondary.
This very aspect determines whether a Master teaches an art or a craft. Whether he perfects the mind, teaches one how to learn or simply helps his pupils develop certain habits.
- Persistence. This is the basis for regulating the process of perfecting which must not be stopped even for a minute, since for the Master this is a naturally developed state, which calls for persistence, controlling all one’s actions and following the method.
- Linear efficiency. This is a quality that demonstrates a specific aspect of masterhood – the necessity to understand that some things do not have a visible form. This is why visible skill is a conditional unit in a conditional analysis. This idea demonstrates to a large degree that true masterhood cannot be defined yet, since we are social beings, it should be regulated in the terms of perception. This is a very tender issue since it may lead to the formation of habits (through imitation) and not to the knowledge of the true essence of a given art.
- Established Actions refers to the constant conformity of actions, since they are an expression of personality. This is one of the most important external principles since it reveals the true tradition of perfection, the formation of the person and the way perfection is manifested. Only honorable people can develop and grow.
Invisible aspects of masterhood or aspects coming from the unnamable
These refer to what comes from the free-will of the master and is related to the purity of the Master, his inner understanding of truth which is out of the reach of the unprepared.
These are aspects that are hard to define yet are easily felt. It’s what comes from one’s experience and the time spent working on oneself, since every person has his inner experience that is not immediately seen by the majority of people. And the way a Master changes through experience is of crucial importance. One can judge about this change only if he has known this master in the very beginning and then sees him 10 or 15 years later, yet even this judgment will not necessarily state the truth since it will not value the efforts and the work done by this Master.
- Level of knowledge and experience. This is what the Master actually possesses and what will remain hidden to the ignorant and unenlightened. This aspect is related to the most important rule of the art – the rhythm that helps one teach the art in a methodological and logical manner. Here the Master studies how to be a true pupil seeing this as the first step to becoming a teacher. Why should the Master be a Teacher? For one purpose only – to perfect the method of attaining knowledge.
- Concentration. This is the art of contemplation, which makes the Master truly wise and brings him to the level of a Teacher. It is a special power that only few people possessing true knowledge can develop. It cannot be formalized. Concentration is what really helps one see what is beyond as well as find new special kinds of experience. Art is related to the ability to contemplate so as to express and not simply demonstrate.
- Following Laws. The true Master Follows the rules and not his own Self. This cannot be seen in reality since he should not simply know these laws but also follow them for years on end. These laws are expressed in his persistence, harmoniousness, continuity and awareness.
- Using the means and capabilities of his art when working with space. This is a volume effectiveness that determines the levels of perception of the Uniform.
- Invisible actions. Refers to the inability to determine a person through his actions, i.e. the everyday work on one’s perfection, one’s self, etc. And to the consistency of one’s everyday life with perfection.
- Lack of internal dialogue. This refers to the true stability that is unseen to the ones around, i.e. the Master’s lack of doubt about what he does. He is constantly focused on knowledge, persistence and harmony. This is the lack of internal dialogue of the Master.
