Description:
The Indians called Venus “Morning Star” or “Evening Star” depending on the position of this planet at different times of the year. Quetzalcoatl was considered to be the God of Venus’s “Morning Star”. Being "morning star", he was Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli - direct translation of this word is “The Ruler of Sunrise Star”. Venus can often be seen in daytime (in daytime we can see from the Earth only two planets apart from the Sun – Venus and the Moon).
Even ancient Babylonians (1600 BC) as well as Olmec and Maya civilisations placed high emphasis on Venus as one of the brightest stars (third brightest star on our sky after the Sun and the Moon). Maya even invented a religious calendar based on Venus´s motion. |
