| Oleg Tcherne
Oleg Tcherne is the founder and leader of INBI World, a multi-national network of esoteric centers specializing in the research, practice and promotion of traditional practices from around the world. As the head instructor of Daoist disciplines, Tcherne spent more than twenty-five years traveling the globe in search of knowledge from ancient esoteric and martial traditions from a wide variety of cultures. Respected as an authority on Daoist internal and external alchemy, he has written more than twenty books on the subject.
Oleg’s life-long quest for self-development was triggered by a near-fatal accident in his twenties when he fell from a roof while doing construction work. Bed-ridden in hospital, he experienced an epiphany in which he realized that, apart from a high-school education and a keen interest in karate and sambo (a martial art developed in the former Soviet Union in the 1930s), he knew little about the meaning and reality of Life. From this followed a single-minded exploration of humans, their capabilities and the world they lived in.
Central to this journey of discovery was his training in karate, which served as a useful scaffold upon which he coalesced, observed and applied his ever-growing eclectic collection of knowledge. His karate teacher, a renowned scholar and exponent of the martial arts, was to become one of the most influential people in his life. It was his teacher’s adage, “One must learn to do at least one thing well in life”, which became the key precept guiding Oleg’s life many years thereafter. Under his teacher’s tutelage, Tchom embarked on the study of Taiji, and perservered alone for many years to deepen his knowledge of this profound art. His efforts at uncovering and understanding Daoist internal practices were expedited in later years by the gradual lifting of Chinese government censorship on esoteric teachings.

The next stage of Oleg’s development was characterized by a period of travel and research. For seven years he visited more than sixty countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, targeting monasteries, ashrams, centres of cultural and physical arts. He convened with cultural and spiritual leaders – monks, priestesses, shamans, wizards, fellow searchers – always recording and analyzing each event and interaction with great dedication. His vision was to create a unified system, or a matrix, of human esoteric knowledge, by consolidating all knowledge of the physical arts, energy practices and systems of thought that he had gathered from around the world.
On his return to Russia in 1990, Oleg established INBI World, originally known as the ‘Research Center for World Cultures’, from which he has conducted hundreds of seminars and lectures, attended by participants from around the world numbering more than fifteen thousand to date.
When asked about his contribution to the modern-day study of esoteric knowledge, Tchom sees his role simply as that of an archeologist - uncovering, re-structuring and re-interpreting invaluable knowledge from ancient cultures for the benefit of people living in today’s increasingly technologically-driven and secular societies.
I simply ‘unearth’ traditions from the obfuscations of their ancient language and rituals, just as archaeologists brush dust away from ancient statues. I do not consider myself a font of universal knowledge, but rather a man driven by a passion for self-development.
